About Us

Please allow me introduce myself. My name is Roberta Grant. I was raised in So. CA. I started sewing at the early age of 10 years old with the encouragement from my parents. And taught by my mother. At first I would sit at the sewing machine and cry and tell my mom " I hate sewing. I will never sew in my life". I thank her for seeing past the crying insisting that I learn to sew. Little did I know the love I would have for this "art". Soon after my mother could not get me away from the sewing machine. I made pillows, shorts and tops for myself and my little sister. By Junior High I was making my own clothes. In school I was enrolled in Home Economics Sew classes for 5 yrs. In my Senior Class I was voted “Most likely to become a seamstress.” I have been sewing over 40years. I have been employed by individuals to sew their personal clothing making everything from children’s clothing to a mans 3 piece suit.

33 years ago when first married my husband bought me a sewing machine that was the price of a small car. He said " if we buy this sewing machine you will never buy a dress again." I was in agreement with that as I loved to sew and had developed the attitude I still hold to this day, " The only place housework comes before sewing is in the dictionary". The first 10 years of our marriage I made all my dresses, many clothes for my husband and baby boy. After that we now had 2 little boys and I found it harder to sew all my dresses. I used that same sewing machine for 32 years.

We are now empty Nester's so recently decided to share my enthusiasm for the art of sewing by holding personalized sewing lessons in the privacy of the students home where they get the attention they deserve, feel most at ease and are most
comfortable.

People ask " Is it economical to sew anymore?". I always say " good work is never cheap and cheap work is never good." If you get your patterns and fabric on sale sewing can be economical. But a real seamstress sews not just to save money, although that is important because a well made dress at a good clothing store will cost over $100.00. But one sews to make something with the pattern, style, length, color, perfect fit and fabric they want. And for the deep satisfaction it gives one to say......" I MADE IT. "

Some of my work as been published in Apron-ology Magazine.
